Project: 'Beauty Flair'

Design of Hairdresser’s Shop

In 1999, smartart was asked to paint the floor of a hairdresser shop (Charakterkopf). Our job was to create an effect of stones and water puddles. After another artist had failed to achieve this look, the owner gave this project to Smartart. Stone slabs and watermarks were painted directly onto the floor and then given a clear coat of varnish. We worked though the weekend, as the opening of the shop was jeopardised by the unsuccessful attempt of the previous artist.

At the next site-inspection, the owner, Stefanie Schulte was delighted by both the artistic result and the fact that the work had already been completed. The opening of the shop could now go ahead as scheduled. The floor was a real ’eye-catcher’ and soon a lot of people were talking about the shop with the unusual floor. People even started visiting the shop just to look at the floor – and many of them have now become regular customers.

Five years later, it was time for a change. Stefanie Schulte wanted a Mediterranean flair rather than the cold blue-greyish look. She extended her range of services by offering cosmetic treatments and wanted the atmosphere to feel smart rather than gimmicky.

The nice floor was replaced by tiles. The walls were treated with terracotta tones using a sponge-technique and the mirrors were re-designed accordingly.

Then the shop was re-named and given a new logo:
